9th Wonder – Digable Planets, Throwback Thursdays

Picture-18

When Digable Planets’ 1994 sophomore classic Blowout Comb was released it was received by yawning ears. Cats slept on this album and the group eventually dismantled, but Blowout got better with time. After getting reissued last year, it officially proved it’s timeless relevance. Although Digable member Butterfly found his floating carpet with his new crew Shabazz Palaces, The Digables were huge. They were on the radio (102 Jams if you were in Orlando, FL) and MTV in constant rotation, plus their style was buggy. Nobody was referring to themselves as insects or babies when compared to the infinity of space and time as they did on Reachin’ (A New Refutation of Time and Space) (1993). They were original by mainstream and underground standards.
