31-year-old Marissa Alexander was sentenced to 20 years in prison for firing warning shots near her abusive husband, Rico Gray and his two sons. She claimed that her husband had been abusing her for nearly a year, in some instances, choking and punching her. Marissa was charged with three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. She thought she was protected by Florida’s stand your ground law, but the court didn’t think it applied in this case. Read more …
