Afro Punk (2003) is the documentary that sparked a movement, an online community, and a music and arts festival. The documentary Afro Punk looks at black youth in the punk rock and hardcore music scene. The film examines the socio-economic-political elements within their lives. It deals with black identity in a predominately white culture.
Afro Punk went on to launch an online community through the site afropunk.com, which features Black punk rock and hardcore artists (not limited to punk rock and hardcore, other genres are represented as well), event listings, and a blog covering various alternative music, arts and media. They also hold a yearly music and arts festival in New York City.
