Washington DC rap duo Pacman and Peso flew to North Korea and secretly filmed a music video for their single, “Escape to North Korea.” This is bat shit crazy. The last time an American got caught taking pictures in North Korea, he was sentenced to 15 years for trying to over throw the government. Last year 80 North Koreans were executed by firing squad for watching Korean movies and possessing Bibles. Just recently supreme leader Kim Jong Un had his uncle, Jang Song Thaek executed for treason. It was said, but not confirmed that his body was fed to dogs. Not to mention prior to their trip, the Federal Government issued its most urgent travel warning against North Korea in 18 years.
Props to these young bloods for pulling it off. Their entire trip was funded through their kickstarter campaign, raising over $10,000. Before this half way around the world trip, neither had ever even been on a airplane. Making music is their attempt to escape complicated circumstances that generally lead to untimely deaths or prison. In an interview with the Guardian prior to the trip, their producer, Ramsey Aburdene said, “We’re not trying to be political heroes or anything like that. We understand there is terrible stuff going on in North Korea, but there is terrible stuff going on here that people aren’t straight up about.”
