This past Mother’s Day Sunday May 11, 2014 RBMA hosted a street party in honor of legendary NYC Garage/House DJ Larry Levan. The event featured DJs David Depino, Francois K, Joey Llanos and other special guest performers like R&B Soul singer and House vocalist Jocelyn Brown. The event was also to promote a petition to the city of NYC to co-name a part of King Street (84th between Varick and Hudson), Larry Levan Way, in honor of DJ Larry Levan. This location is where the legendary venue Paradise Garage use to be, a place where Larry Levan use to hold court as a DJ, an important venue for the development of Garage and House music, and is a part dance music history. The RBMA street party took place on this block, from 12PM-6PM EST (8AM-3PM PST), with a live stream video on the Internet for anyone around the world to check out. Below are two audio streams of recorded DJ sets from the event as well as three hours of video footage (part one looks like an attendee recorded on site, part two and three are recorded off the live stream).
