Artist SpY put together this buggie instillation on the side of a building in Madrid. 150 fake cameras on a grid, pointed in a single direction. It’s an obvious, simple, but effective symbol for social commentary on the invasion of privacy. The fact that they’re fake cameras does little to diminish their significance, unless you know it’s an art project. It’s enough to disrupt a pedestrian’s day, as if the NSA decided to be cute. To quote Radiohead’s “There There,” “Just cause you feel it doesn’t mean it’s there” or is it? Well played SpY. About the project, the artist wrote on his site, “fake security cameras on building facade with the intention of not watching over anything.”
