– Young Fathers’ is a trio comprised of Alloysious Massaquoi (Liberia), Kayus Bankole (Nigeria),  ‘G’ Hastings (Edinburgh) based out of Edinburgh, Scotland. Their style of music can be describe as a blend of Hip-Hop, R&B, alternative, electronic, experimental, and noise rock. They had minor hits in the UK with “Straight Back On It” (2008) and “Automatic” (2010), followed by the release of two EP’s Tape one (2011) and Tape Two (2013). Earlier in 2014 they released their debut studio album Dead. Young Fathers’ have an interesting sound: noisy, haunting, soulful, and rhythmically enchanting tunes. James Mtume, producer, bandleader, songwriter, 70’s Miles Davis drummer, and son of saxophonist Jimmy Heath of the Heath Brothers, Mtume talks about it all. You may not know it, but you’ve definitely heard this man’s music. Hip-hop producers have sampled this man into the ground: Nas’ “Black Girl Lost,” Action Bronson’s “Strictly 4 My Jeeps,” and Biggie Smalls’ “Juicey” is just barely scratching the surface.
