Shabazz Places Lese Majesty stream
– Seattle’s experimental Hip-Hop collective Shabazz Places recently released their sophomore album Lese Majesty, a follow up to Shabazz Places’ critically acclaimed 2011 debut album Black Up. Shabazz Places collective is lead by the duo: Ishmael Butler aka ‘Palaceer Lazaro’ (once ‘Butterfly’ of the Hip-Hop group Digable Planets) and multi-instrumentalist Tendai ‘Baba’ Maraire, son of Mbira master Dumisani Maraire. Shabazz Places are on the now legendary Seattle indie label Sub Pop (once home to legendary Seattle acts like Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Mudhoney). Lese Majesty continues Shabazz Places’ experimental, electronic, organic beats, and Afrofuturists aesthetics with Ishmael Butler’s stream of consciousness, abstract, spoken word rhymes over next level electro-organic beats. Listening to Lese Majesty conjures to mind the Last Poets, Sun Ra, Brian Eno, electronic instruments, traditional musical and percussive instruments, Afrofuturism, Kool Keith (Doctor Octogon), Deltron 3030 (Dan the Automator & Del The Funky Homosapien), and Madlib’s alter ego Quasimoto. – Emmaar is the latest and the sixth album from Malian Tuareg Tishoumaren, folk, African blues, rock band Tinariwen. Songs on Emmaar touch on the band’s exile (one of the band’s member Abdallah Ag Lamida was captured by Islamist militants during the 2012 rebellion in Mali and later released) and the political strife in their homeland. Guest contributors to the album include musicians Josh Klinghoffer, Fats Kaplin, Matt Sweeney, and Saul Williams.
