Q-Tip and Busta Rhymes have been long time collaborators through out their careers, ever since Busta, along with his crew Leaders of the New School appeared on A Tribe Called Quest’s classic posse cut “Scenario” (1992). As a treat for fans around this holiday season, on this 20th anniversary of ATCQ’s Midnight Marauders (1993), Q-tip and Busta decided to collaborate once again as a duo and not as leaders of two seminal Hip Hop groups from the late 80’s, early 90’s. They dubbed their project The Abstract and the Dragon, a play on each other’s alias, Q-Tip’s is a description of his abstract rhymes, Busta’s is from his famous line from Scenario (“RRRRAOWR, RRRRAOW, like a dungeon dragon!”).

The Abstract and the Dragon Mixtape is a collection of new tracks like Thank You or Butch & Sundance” with some classic jams from Busta & Q-tip’s past work like One Two Shit or Scenario. It sounds like they’re giving fans a sprinkle of their previous work, plus some new material mixed in, a teaser for a bigger 2014 project. As Busta sounds off in the intro “That ol’ boom bap…to hold ya’ll over the holiday season…”
